Tipperary ETB is committed to providing academic and assessment support to students with disabilities.

We use a Universal Design for Teaching and Learning approach to ensure inclusivity, and we also provide individual support to students who may need it.

Our aim is to make sure that you can engage fully in your course and are not disadvantaged because of a disability.

Students with a disability or significant ongoing illness can apply to receive reasonable accommodation or support while on a course, or at the point of assessment

You can arrange this support throughout your learning journey, but it is best to discuss your needs as early as possible so that any support you require can be put in place without delay.

You can discuss your support needs with your teacher.

If you would like to discuss available supports, please email [email protected] to arrange this.

To apply for support, a needs assessment is conducted at centre level with you. You are asked to present your evidence of disability documentation before you complete a needs assessment.

Click here for a table of information showing the type of evidence required based on the type of disability.

Disclosing is your choice, and you will make your decision based on your personal circumstances and support needs.

However, for Tipperary ETB to provide you with support or reasonable accommodation, we will require this information to support your application for support. But we only need information relevant to your support needs, and it will only be shared with those who need to know and who can help put support in place.

For additional information on disclosure please follow this link to Ahead.ie.

At your Needs Assessment you will agree on a plan for your classroom supports. We understand that you may need accommodations for some subjects and not for others. Examples of classroom accommodations used by students include:

  • Assistive technology equipment to assist with completing classroom assignments, if eligible.
  • Non-medical helper or personal assistance for personal care or hygiene, if eligible.
  • Provision of required reading in an accessible format, if eligible
  • Provision of an Irish Sign Language (ISL) Interpreter and/or Note Taker for Deaf students, if eligible.
  • Students’ teachers may be made aware of your disability, if desired.

Please talk to your teacher as early as possible about your assessment support needs. This support might include extra time, use of an alternative exam location in your centre, use of a reader, etc.
