Over 100 hundred students and learners from schools and further education centres across Tipperary Education and Training Board (ETB) performed at The Dome in Thurles for a special Schools’ Talent Show on ETB Day, Thursday March 2, 2023.
Teachers, parents and Tipperary ETB staff were part of a large audience in Thurles last Thursday as young learners from across the county displayed a broad range of musical performances. The event took place on ETB Day, a national celebration of heroes and learners within each ETB, ten years on from their establishment.
RTE 2FM presenter Aindriú de Paor, a former student of Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn in Clonmel, was the guest presenter on the night. He welcomed 24 acts on stage from across the ETB family of schools, as well as bands from Music Generation Tipperary and further education students in CTI Clonmel.
Vice Chairperson of Tipperary ETB, Cllr Roger Kennedy, was among those in attendance on the night, and he paid wholesome tribute to the performers and school staff for the quality of talent on display.
Chief Executive of Tipperary ETB, Bernadette Cullen, said that events such as this one are a vital part of the education experience for young people:
“The emphasis on development of the whole person is very evident, where our schools and centres inspire and encourage creativity. Every year Tipperary ETB works with at least 10% of the county’s population through its various front-line education services.“
Director of Schools at Tipperary ETB, Clodagh Kelly, said the event showcased the wide array of wonderful talent within schools across the Premier County:
“Our core values of excellence, care, equality, respect and community were clearly on display in The Dome. A wealth of musical talent was on view showing the broad range of skills across all our schools.
“I am particularly delighted to include Music Generation Tipperary in this event – their first time performing publicly with the Tipperary ETB community.
“It is great to meet in person following an absence of our schools’ talent show for the last three years.”
Earlier on the day, Croke Park hosted the ETB Excellence Awards in which the great work of learners and ETB staff was highlighted in an event hosted by RTE News journalist and former ETB student Ray Kennedy.
Schools, as well as further education and training centres under the Tipperary ETB umbrella, spent the week celebrating the ethos and core values of ETBs with special events and social media promotions.
